Ok it is perhaps a bit too posh to say these are my new 'jewelry collections' but at least these are the new pieces I was working on (some new polymer clay pieces) while staying at home sick at the beginning of this year. As Valentine's day is coming soon I of course made some new heart-shaped pieces with patterns I have already used. The other 'collection' is about traditional Hungarian embroidery patterns (Kalocsai and Matyó) that so far I have refused to use as they were 'too popular' in the past few years and I did not want to copy anyone. But in fact I like these patters so I decided to make jewelry using them, my way. Let me know what you think of them :) They are available in my Etsy shop.
Új kollekciók / New jewelry collections

Merry Christmas!
Tengerkék mandala karperec / Teal mandala leather cuff
Ráadásul a korai sötétedés sem tesz jót, úgy érzem. Ti hogy viselitek ezt az időszakot?

Mandala karperec / Mandala leather bracelet
Ezt a bronz bőr karperecet régebben készítettem, de elfelejtettem megmutatni nektek :) Saját készítésű elefántcsont-utánzat kabosonból készült, lótusz mandala mehndi mintával és bronz bőrből.
This bracelet was made a few weeks ago, but I forgot to blog about it. I used one of my faux ivory cabochons, with a lotus mandala mehndi pattern, and bronze leather.

Yesterday I did something I've been dreaming of doing since I was in high school - this is when I first read about metal clay. At that time it was impossible to find it in Hungary, until a few years ago, but only now could I afford it (this stuff is really expensive...). So finally yesterday I made my first silver clay earrings and I couldn't be happier with the result- even if I see its flaws and someone who has experience in using metal clay can probably see even more. But I really don't mind, the earrings look almost exactly as I imagined them.
When I started working, I was a bit surprised how different silver clay and polymer clay are, I'm used to the texture of polymer clay so I expected more elasticity instead of this ceramic paste texture that keeps sticking on every surface it touches - my fingers, the working mat, the texture sheet, the roller... I tried to scratch it off and collect the powder but I still wasted a lot (and later i even needed the powder, one of the small pieces broke so I had to fix it). I also realised that the pieces were too thick...And even though I bough the slow drying type, I almost ruined half the clay I bought because I believed what the paper said - that I have about 30 minutes before it dries out. Well, mine started forming lumps after about 5 minutes.
After drying the pieces (for days, just to be sure :D) and sanding them I decided to take them home to fire them with my dad's soldering torch. But it turned out to be too large for my tiny pieces, so I brought them back to fire them with my small kitchen torch. Which turned out to be too small! But whatever, I was too excited to let them be unfired for even an hour more so I used this little one (with a flame of only a half inch...) and it worked OK. I was so happy when I brushed off the white powder and burnished the pieces after firing, I couldn't stop smiling all evening. I antiqued them with liver to bring out the pattern but now I'm actually not sure whether I like them antiqued or shiny. What do you think?
All in all, I'm very happy I tried silver clay and I'm sure it was not the last time :) I will keep reading and learning about this material meanwhile.
